Winter Wedding Flower Inspiration: Create a Magical Celebration
As a floral designer at Sarah Ashleigh Designs, I love the unique charm and beauty that winter weddings bring. The season offers a stunning array of floral options, and with the right arrangements, you can create a magical atmosphere that captures the essence of winter. If you’re planning a winter wedding, let’s explore some inspiring ideas for your floral designs and how to preserve those beautiful blooms.
Embrace Seasonal Blooms
Winter may seem limited in terms of floral options, but there are many beautiful choices available. Think about incorporating:
Evergreens: Pine, fir, and cedar not only add texture but also bring a lovely fragrance to your arrangements.
Roses: Available in various colors, roses can bring warmth to your winter palette.
Anemones: These striking flowers with dark centers are perfect for adding contrast and elegance.
Hellebores: Also known as the Christmas rose, hellebores add a touch of winter magic with their delicate blooms.
By focusing on these seasonal flowers, you can create stunning arrangements that reflect the beauty of winter.
Color Palettes for Winter Weddings
When choosing your color palette, consider rich jewel tones or soft pastels. Deep reds, emerald greens, and navy blues can create a sophisticated look, while pale pinks, whites, and silvers offer a more ethereal feel. Mixing textures, like incorporating soft feathers or shimmering metallics, can elevate your arrangements and add dimension.
Preserving Your Winter Blooms
One of the best aspects of a winter wedding is the opportunity to preserve your flowers. After the celebration, I recommend preserving your wedding flowers to keep the memories alive. Here’s how I approach flower preservation, particularly using resin:
The Resin Preservation Process
1. Selecting the Right Flowers: After your wedding, choose the most vibrant and intact flowers from your arrangements. I can help you select the best blooms for preservation.
2. Preparing the Flowers: I carefully remove any damaged parts and prepare the flowers for resin. This step ensures the final product is as beautiful as possible. Flowers are dried right away.
3. Embedding in Resin: I pour a clear resin into moulds and gently place the flowers inside. This method not only preserves the flowers but also creates stunning pieces that can be displayed as art.
4. Curing: The resin needs time to cure, layer by layer. Once cured, the flowers will be encased in a beautiful, glossy finish, and pieces are sanded and top coated or polished.
5. Creating Keepsakes: I offer various options for displaying your preserved flowers, including jewelry, coasters, or framed pieces. These unique keepsakes make for beautiful home décor or thoughtful gifts for loved ones.
